Postpartum Support
It's very common for expectant families to focus on preparing for labor and birth, while the logistics of caring for a new baby may be difficult to imagine or plan for. Having worked with many families throughout the years and offering one postpartum visit, I added an additional postpartum visit after realizing that many families would benefit from an extra visit. This second visit with my birth doula clients has proven to be a wonderful opportunity to talk, share, listen and offer support, in whatever way the new family needs.
Some ways I may support you, as you adjust to life with a new baby, are:
Because each visit may bring about different needs or wants, we will outline at the start of the visit ways I can provide support. If that feels like too much or you aren't quite sure what you need (but you know you want support), we will work together so you feel you're getting your needs met during our time together.
My role during this time is not to be your housekeeper, a nanny, a lactation consultant or your therapist. My role is to be a kind, compassionate and kind professional that provides you the support all new parents may benefit from. Some of this includes pieces of what the various professionals, previously mentioned, may offer. However, my job is to support you as you settle into parenthood with your new baby. While not formally trained as a postpartum doula, I have years of experience as a birth doula and childbirth educator along with being a mom to three children. I will also refer you to additional professionals, should you be interested or looking for support I am not otherwise able to provide.

Some ways I may support you, as you adjust to life with a new baby, are:
- spending time talking and listening, as you share your birth story, happenings with your baby, the changes happening in your family's life, among other topics
- providing problem solving support, in terms of adjusting to life with your baby
- completing housekeeping chores or other tasks that are put to the side when you care for yourself and/or your new baby
- holding and caring for your baby while you take the time you need to care for your own needs
- playing games or reading with your older child(ren)
